Appeals are about process, not the mark itself: Valid grounds are limited to things like a regulation not being followed correctly, an administrative error, examiner bias, or misleading assessment information — disagreement with an examiner's academic judgement is explicitly excluded and can never be appealed.

Anonymous Marking: Marking is anonymous by default, with exceptions only where anonymity genuinely isn't practical (e.g., oral assessments, dissertations) — and it's lifted immediately if misconduct is suspected.

A representative sample of work is independently moderated: Normally 10% of the cohort or 10 scripts, whichever is larger — plus every borderline fail, reviewed by a senior academic uninvolved in the original marking.

Marks are provisional until formally confirmed: Provisional marks/feedback should reach you within 15 days of submission; once a Progression and Awards Board confirms results, you have 10 working days to file a Stage 1 appeal if you have valid grounds
