Unit 6 Managing a Successful Business Project Assignment
‘Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large’ (World Business Council for Sustainable Development). It is a multifaceted concept that encompasses many different aspects ranging from philanthropy, ethical responsibilities and environmental considerations.
Corporate Social Responsibility and its importance for sustainability and competitive advantage has now become a theme running alongside other marketing strategies in the board room. “Changing attitudes of customers have driven marketers to find new ways to make marketing relevant to society, dialogue-seeking, responsive and involving” (Ptacek and Salazar, 1997). The key is to strike a balance between benefiting society at large, and benefitting the business.
Designated project managers have been contracted by organisations to apply project management techniques to successfully execute and launch these campaigns. You have just joined one of these Project Management Consultancy as a student intern as part of your locus business course.
As part of your training, you have been asked to plan and execute a CSR centred marketing campaign launch project on a small scale for a new product.
- Consider a Public Limited Company of your choice. Select a product/service from the organisation. Plan and execute a Business Management Project in the form of a Marketing Campaign Launch centred on CSR for the selected product/service.
- The following criteria must be covered in a Report Format P1
- Devise project aims and objectives for a CSR centred Marketing Campaign Launch project for the selected product/service.
P2 -Produce a project management plan for the aims and objectives set in P1 that covers aspects of cost, scope, time, quality, communication, risk and resou rces.
M1 - The project management plan Produced in P2 must be comprehensive with milestone schedule and project schedule for monitoring and completing the aims and objectives of the project.
P3 - Produce a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and a Gantt Chart to provide timeframes and stages for completion of the project.
P4 - Carry out a small-scale research by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods appropriate for meeting the project aims and objectives devised in P1
M2 - Evaluate the accuracy and reliability of the different research methods applied in P4
D1 (LO1 & 2) : Critically evaluate the project management process and appropriate research methodologies applied.
The research set in P4 has been carried out successfully. As part of the Project Closure, you have been asked to present your findings in a report format to the management team.
The presentation is crucial to the business decision and choices that the management at your chosen organisation make and must cover the following criteria:
P5 - Analyse the research and data conducted in P4 using appropriate tools and techniques.
P6 - Communicate appropriate recommendations as a result of the research and data analysis to draw valid and meaningful conclusions.
M3 - In your communication for P6, you must evaluate the selection of appropriate tools and techniques for accuracy and authenticity to support and justify the recommendations.
P7 - Your training has come to a successful end. You are to Reflect and write down in 500 words the value of undertaking the research to meet the stated objectives and own learning and performance.
M4 - Evaluate the value of the project management process and use of quality research to meet the stated objectives and support own learning and performance
D2 (LO3 & 4) : Using a template, Critically evaluate and reflect on the project outcomes, the decision-making process and changes or developments of the initial project management plan to support justification of recommendations and learning during the project.
Additional Evidence Requirements
In addition to the above assessment criteria students will also be required to complete a Project Logbook to record ideas, changes and developments as they progress and complete the project.
