Reflective learning Essay
Introduction
The essay will discuss reflective learning and other concepts related to it. Reflective learning is defined as making the learning of an individual more aware and cognizant process it helps an individual to become an active learner and it gives the ability to ask questions and critically evaluate the ideas which are developed in own self of the learner Colomer et al., (2020). Refective learning involves reading, writing and listening to own self. The essay aims to develop an understanding of reflective learning. The essay will discuss the models of reflection like Gibb’s model of reflection in the essay with a descriptive approach on the feedforward and feedback and how these can help to improve the formative as well as the summative assessment. The ways from which the formative and the summative assessments can be made with the reflective approaches to the feedback and feedforward has been discussed.
Main body
With the help of Gibb’s reflective model, a better understanding can be generated of an individual Venesaar et al., (2021). With the help of Gibb’s approach, the reflective and the own understanding can be generated in a better way. There are a few stages of Gibb’s reflective model they are as follows:
In the Description stage, the judgement of the learnings are not made rather the individual describes the condition. The condition of oneself. The problems which the individual is having while learning and where there is the scope of improvement is described in the description Salas Vicente et al., (2021). Here the description of the problems is made in detail.
In the Feelings stage yet the individual is not very clear about the situation but rather the individual needs to know what does he or she feels about the task or the assessment of the learning. The emotional levels are being discussed. With the feeling and the development of the understanding of the feeling, the complexity of the task can be measured Jeronen et al., (2016).
In the Evaluation stage of reflective learning the experiences of the individuals are shared. With the sharing of the experiences, the judgements can be made where the experiences of the individual were good or bad. With the evaluation of the experiences, the learning can be flourished as the individual comes to know how the learning of the experiences can be gained Gokturk Saglam and Tsagari, (2022).
In the Analysis stage, the analysis of the situation is made if the situation here the individual sees and analysis there the situation is new or he or she has dealt with it previously. After knowing the situation the problems are dealt with. If the situation is similar then the problem can be solved with the previous tactics used. But when the analysis of the situation is made and the problems come out to be new then a smart action plan is needed to be generated Tractenberg et al., (2016).
In the Conclusion stage, the final judgement of the situation is made. The overall experience is shared of the situation. With the overall experiences, the problem can be known and just in case the problem arrives again the dealing of the problem can be made. If the learner is not able to tackle the situation the smart plan of action can help Ferretti et al., (2021).
Action plan: With the smart action plan the problem coming to the learner while learning can be tackled. With the tackling of the problem and the situation, the plan can help to generate a road map of the situation. Where the individual is lagging is being discussed. Where the learner has to put efforts are being discussed in the action plan Yu and Jee, (2020).
Feedback and the feedforwards are part of learning. Although the tutor always gives feedback to the students based on the judgements of the assessments and the class behaviours Tahir et al., (2021). It is also very important to have a feedforward of the assessment. The feedback process with Gibb’s reflective model will be very much constructive as the situation is analysed in detail. The analysis of the situation needs to be made in detail while addressing the feedback the reflective model is very much helpful in knowing the weak points of the situation and how the weak point can be made the strong point while learning. The goals and the objective can be fulfilled with the help of feedback if implemented correctly in the situation. As the feedback gives the analysis report of the what the individual has done in the past whereas the feedforwards help to know the individual about the how the future of an individual can be developed. With the help of the feedforward the future of the individual can be flourished as feedforward regenerates, expands, particular, authentic, impact and redefines the future and its development Saeed and Mohamedali, (2022). Gibb’s reflective cycle helps to understand the future of the individual by the cycle. The assessments are of different kinds like sometimes they are of short times known as the formative assessments whereas some times they are of a long time also known as the summative assessment the feedback and the feedforward both can be used in the Gibbs reflective model to make the learning interesting Rastrollo-Guerrero et al., (2020). With the help of these reflective models in the assessments, the career of the individual can be made more effective. The action plan can help to develop the feedforward of the situation as it helps in the planning of the situation for the future whereas the feedback helps to know the situation in which the individual was previously involved and what are the responses of the tutors or the teachers regarding is being discussed Ben-Eliyahu, (2021). Both the types whether it is feedback or feedforward are important for reflective learning as it helps in academic as well as professional skills development. As the feedback focuses on the past whereas the feedforward focuses on the future.
There are various types of assessment while an individual is learning they are summative and formative Oxenswärdh and Persson-Fischier, (2020). The reflective approach helps to know the weak points of an individual in the different types of assessments. The formative assessment compromises with the short term of the assessments whereas the summative assessment compromises in the longer term as compared to the formative assessment of an individual. Both the assessments are important in the academic life of an individual or a learner. The reflective approach help in giving the idea about how to make plans to flourish in the career. Academic skills and professional skills are interdependent. The assessment helps to develop the career of the learner Hussain et al., (2019). Feedback and feedforward help to analyse its assessment to achieve success. The reflective approach in both of these assessments will help the students to understand the skills that they are required to learn. Self-assessment is very important to develop an understanding and this can be achieved with the help of Gibb’s reflective model. As the feedback is from the past assessment therefore after the analysis of the situation the feedback can help the learner to develop the future of the assessment. The assessments are of different kinds like sometimes they are of short times known as the formative assessments whereas some times they are of a long time also known as the summative assessment the feedback and the feedforward both can be used in the Gibbs reflective model to make the learning interesting. With the help of these reflective models in the assessments, the career of the individual can be made more effective Chen et al., (2022). With the help of feedback and the feedforward, an action plan can be made. The action plan made with the usage of feedback and the feedforward will be more productive and effective also it will give the learner chances to improve. The feedback of the formative assessment can be made used to improve and feedforward to the summative assessment. The formative assessment is for short term assessment where there are chances given for improvement. Whereas the summative assessment is not for the short term and also it carries a lot of weightage, therefore, the assessment of the summative is important. The Gibbs reflective model helps to understand the situation better whether it is feedback or feedforward Bhatti et al., (2022).
