Introduction
This report will describe the practical study of Gibbs's reflective cycle. This model originated by Graham Gibbs In 1988 (Adeani, 2020). Fast fashion is a rapid industry in the UK and has been performed in group work. Customers adore the producers who follow the trend, and keep low prices. The moment towards fast fashion began when Hargreaves of Oswaldtwistle made the first spinning jenny machine to rotate cotton faster by the 1770s (Guardian News & Media Limited, 2024).
1. Description
This descriptive case study was about the small fast fashion industry in the UK. Fast fashion is a rapid industry in the UK. Customers adore the producers who follow the trend and keep low prices. The term Fast Fashion means fashionable clothes that are manufactured at high speed and low cost (Curiously Conscious, 2024). In the fashion industry, fast fashion is the dominant player and will be responsible for a quarter of the Earth’s carbon budget by 2050 (Guardian News & Media Limited, 2024). While we were working on this case study, we had to follow Tuckman and Jensen's social development theory for effective productivity and to achieve common goals. This theory helped us from forming to performing. At the time of the group forming, we introduced ourselves to each other, discussed about clear goal and objectives, timeline for completing the project our team leader managed most of the agenda. In the next stage storming, some conflict arose but it was sorted out later which was the Norming stage and then team members were able to do work individually.
2. Feelings
While working on this case study I felt many issues. At starting of this research, I felt low on self-confidence. I also had conflict with my teammate so I felt depressed. Slowly I gained confidence while doing research in this case study. In the UK, the fast fashion industry is highly exploring this market. In this retail market, various employees are working on a low salary. So, the turnover of employees is very high in this industry. I feel some concern about the staff's mental health and the reason for the high turnover. Company was new in the market so sometimes, I felt frustrated with customers' complaints. The textile industry releases harmful greenhouse gases. This gas is so harmful to the environment that I feel very bad for this environmental impact. I want to find some solution for this problem for a safe environment.
3. Evaluation
Positive aspects
The company is not so active on social platforms so my suggestion to the company to enhance social marketing gave positive results in the company’s profit.
I decided to follow a competitive pricing strategy. There were various competitors in the market so I decided to keep the price not too high or too low to sustain in the market. This decision gave good results to the company and showed my decision making abilities.
I researched the UK’s fashion trends, so I followed the trend according to customers’ demands and choices. The impact of this decision enhances the productivity of the business.
Negative aspects
Small companies need to work a lot to stand in the competitive marketplace. Employee's salary was low in comparison to workload. So, they were highly demotivated in the scenario I should talk with the employees. But I had made the mistake that was the reason for the high labour turnover and thus shown my lack of critical thinking.
The marketplace had many competitors, so customers were more loyal to companies that had been available there for more than a few years. So, my decision to follow a competitive pricing strategy later on resulted in low customer satisfaction.
4. Analysis
After the evaluation of this case study, I evaluate my positive or negative decisions. I analyse my strengths and weaknesses points. I made various decisions while I was doing work, and some of the decisions gave good results to the company to enhance their productivity, but some of my decisions were harmful for the company. My decision to enhance online or digital marketing, and make the website worked well for the company. These decisions enhance the company’s sales and increase profit.
Some decisions made by me went wrong because of my lack of management skills. I denied talking with my staff was the biggest and worst decision of mine. This results in a high dissatisfaction and turnover of the employees. I analyse that the most difficult area to make strategic business decisions is management. To achieve goals efficiently and effectively in the organisation the management must be strong. My management skills were not so strong so I analysed because of that I was lagging to making effective decisions. I have not applied Porter’s five forces model to analyse the internal environment of the company. Target market analysis helped me to identify opportunities for diversification in the market. This thing decreases interdependency and increases revenue.
5. Conclusion
After doing this case study, I felt that I could do much more for the company. Nowadays people are more addicted to using mobile so it would be better if I made the company’s website for easy mobile use as well. If I hire an influencer to advertise my company, I think it would provide high recognition to the company. Because influencers have large fan followings so when an influencer posts, others will follow. I think I should take participate in more local exhibitions and events like markets or pop-up shops to demonstrate our products and interact with potential consumers. In these types of case studies, I think I should develop my critical thinking skills and management skills more for better performance. Team collaboration is very useful for better results I should develop my listening skills and problem-solving skills for better team management.
