Evidence 1. Journey lines
Summary: I choose to start my portfolio with this diagram because I think is a great exercise which reveals a person’s skills, experiences, background. And it is very important to know from where you start to know how much progress you did. The journey line uses experiences as a moving force for change (Dewey, 1938).
Evidence 2: Communication Lesson
Summary: Communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with ours superiors, colleagues or staff are essential to become a leader. This lesson had a great impact for me because it has improves the way I operate in my day to day life. It has made my relationship smooth with other people. Before, my relations were bit sour, but through proper communications I have handled all my issues.
Evidence 3: Task for thinking of all the ways in which we communicate today
Summary: I learned that communication means sharing and receiving information and it can be done by various ways. I can message someone, send letters, emails, or I can directly talk to them. This is the reason I have made a to-do a list where I will write the things I will do every day to learn effective communication.
Evidence 4: Communication and Presentation
Summary: I learned that for proper presentation I need to speak effectively. I need to communicate my points with the people I am presenting my presentation. Not only that, I get to know that presentation skills always comes in handy. Be than in business life, or academic life, in every walk of life, communications and presentation skills play a crucial life. It is also said that people with good presentational and communication skills are often great leaders.
Evidence 5: The Stroop effect
Summary: The Stroop Effect is named after the scientist who first noticed it, J. Ridley Stroop. It shows what can happen when your brain gets competing instructions. Your brain receives lots of information all the time and has to sort out which is most important to pay attention to. When you learned to read, you discovered that what the word says is usually more important than what colour it is. This trained your brain to pay attention to the word’s meaning first. When you try to say the word’s colour instead (green), it is hard to ignore what the word actually says (“red”). It takes slightly longer to sort out the information and say the right name, and you’re more likely to make mistakes.
Evidence 6: Driscoll’s model of reflection
Summary: Driscoll model is a communication and personal development tool that I took for this evidence because its main advantage is that its' structure is easy to use and relativity simple to apply. It helps to analyse an experience through reflective learning which will improve my personal efficiency.
Evidence 7: Task “The Paper challenge”
Summary: From that dog incident I realised that the importance of staying calm in difficult situation. By staying calm cool in difficult situations lets me think logically and take decisions accordingly. I also learned that clarity of mind is necessary as well. Under extreme circumstances, it is easier to deal with situations when the person is relaxed and his thoughts are clear.
Evidence 8: Task Kolb’s Learning Style Questionnaire
Summary: Kolb’s model questionnaire helps to learn the importance of the reflection component in the learning cycle (ic-english.eu, 2020). It has allowed me to process my experience. I can easily evaluate and recount my experiences. By link my experience with my learning, I can expect the outcome of my results and increase my efficiency.
Evidence 9: Task Examine Experience
Summary: I recently had a break-up with my girlfriend. In this evidence I am examining my break-up experience. I respect the decision of parting ways with the person and I am going to be impulsive about it. I was difficult at first; by I am embracing positive thinking. Writing my feelings like this has helped me lot to overcome my emotions.
Evidence 10: Reflecting in action vs reflecting on action
Summary: Reflecting on action (thinking after the moment) is the ability to think on what has previously happened and consider different. On action allows you to come up with strategies for the future, gives you time to rethink your process and fairly easy. Reflecting in action (thinking in the moment) is the ability to think through different approaches to handle a situation is occuring. In action is very difficult, requires you to think logically not emotionally, requires patience (fons.org, 2017).
Through this course I understand that I need to focus more on my mental strength so that I can take appropriate actions when required.
Evidence 11: Reasons people fail to learn something
Summary: I learned why people fail to learn something and why I have been struggling with the same. By learning those points I will make sure to work on my weakness and develop myself.
Evidence 12: The “Change Curve”
Summary: The Change Curve has helps to understand the stages of organisational change and personal transition (truemanchange.co.uk 2021). It has helped me in predicting the actions of people and how they react to certain changes. It also makes sure that people going through transition or change have the support they need.
