The process of research for understanding what it takes to be a successful leader was extensive. In respect to the team had to invest a lot of time in understanding and evaluating theories that were required by the topic. The learning process of understanding the theories in the report was elongated due to the extensive research that had been performed. In respect to better understand the importance of leadership and to answer the question of what it takes to become a successful leader various theory of leadership had been studies. I focused on the contextual, individual and relational theories to gain an insight into various styles of leadership that can be used by leaders across all sectors and industries. Furthermore, to explain each of the sections one leadership theory had been selected. It defines the individual theory of leadership the Great Man Theory had been selected among the Katz’s Three Skills Model, Lewin’s leadership styles and Great man theory. The Great man theory talks about the qualities of leading and contemporary introspections (Toh and Ruot, 2019). Likewise, it determines the meaning of contextual leadership theory the Path goal theory that had been developed by Robert house had been selected. The path-goal theory was selected among the Situational Approach and Path-Goal Theory. In addition, path-goal theory talks about determining subordinate characteristics for the execution of the working principles (Vermuelen, 2019). Moreover, to understand the relational leadership I used the transformational leadership style. I selected the transformational leadership style among Servant leadership, Transformational leadership and Leader-Member Exchange Theory. All the leadership styles provided the base theory that was required to perform further evaluation in the report. Thus, it has provided me to gain information about the above-mentioned leadership style along with the models. In addition, the application of the leadership provides the necessary sustenance for future accomplishment of goal and target.

The second question of shares about ways to develop good leadership skills the questions like “Can you develop leadership” and the techniques to develop leadership have been explained. The answer to the first part was established to be a Yes that was supported with arguments that have been detailed in the report. Thus, the second part of this question determined the ways that one can develop their leadership skills. I had performed comprehensive research and through elimination method selected the best techniques that one can use to develop their leadership skills (Fossett, 2017). I was able to list down at least five traits that can develop one’s leadership skills in their academic as well as their professional career. As per my research the current trends in the market to determine 3 leaders that suited three leadership styles. The three leaders were selected from the retail sector, service sector and political sector. Thus, the leader from the retail sector was Ken Murphy portraying situational leadership in Tesco (Jahshan, 2020). The leader from the service sector was Dara Khosrowshahi describing transformational leadership style and lastly, from the political sector Justin Trudeau the Prime Minister of Canada depicting the servant leadership style.

The difference between leadership and management has been detailed in the assignment. I have defined both the business functions and compared and contrasted them to perform a critical evaluation of their differences. Therefore, the key differences that were noticed by me were counting and creating value, the circle of influence and circle of power and focus strategy (Thomas, 2020). The examples of the attributes had been explained by providing examples that will suit the needs of current trends and theories. Likewise, the examples of leaders from Marks and Spencer, Vodafone and Amazon were used to provide an organizational context to the distinction between management and leadership. The last question was about outlining personal experience through which I can draw my learning about leadership. Two of my personal experiences with leadership had been mentioned in the report. This report also mentions my changed perspective on the leadership function after encountering the respective experiences.

Part 2:

The group presentation required a team effort to produce a presentation that was well thought out. Therefore, the research for the presentation included the process and activities of brainstorming sessions. The brainstorming sessions with the teammates gave us an insight into how the segregation of work should be done. We analyzed our strengths in each topic that was provided in the report and used it to our advantage to produce a group presentation. The prioritization of strengths enables all the group members to use their strengths in the presentation to produce a collaborative report and presentation. In addition, the collaborative techniques that led to the determination of tasks that will suit all the individuals led to the segregation of tasks that were required to complete the presentation (Song and Chai, 2018). The brainstorming sessions gave us ideas on what we should include in the presentation and how we should present it. We establish a foothold for the further communication process. Therefore, it can be concluded to the fact that, the application of strength helps in inclusion of different types of techniques for better accumulation of work.

The communication process was necessary to identify the challenges that were faced by individuals during the group presentation. This tasks that had been divided into the brainstorming sessions included strengths such as research skills, analytical skills, writing skills, presentation skills and leadership skills. The bifurcation of these skills required each individual to perform the tasks respectively. Thus, the first phase of the presentation required research. It was challenging to secure the data required for the research. The strength of the research skills was put to use during this phase. In the next phase of the preparation of the presentation was the segregation and elimination of data that was required to produce the presentation. The use of analytical skills was of great use in this phase to determine the relevant data that could be used in the presentation. It was learned that the secondary data collection had many sources available for the same piece of information but the most reliable source of data has been selected to prepare the presentation. The credibility of sources was checked during the segregation and elimination of the data. In addition, the data was written in a draft to understand the basic structure of the presentation. The draft contained the structure which utilized the writing skills. It was learned that writing skills are important for a good and comprehensive presentation (Dubey, 2017). Speaking about means of convey, the right message efficiently, writing skills are an essential tool. The importance of writing skills had been discovered in this process.

The last phase of the process was preparing the presentation where the presentation skills played an important role. This presentation was prepared collaboratively by taking insights from each member of the group. Teamwork and leadership were learned in this process. The presentation of the report was done in such a manner that it looked engaging. Therefore, the engagement factor was rightly addressed. The use of PowerPoint presentation was done in this process and it was discovered that there as a lack of creativity in the presentation. There is room for improvement in integrating creativity and innovation in the presentation. The learning experience reflected the strategic process of producing a presentation (Zaitseva, 2020). I have learned that the phases and steps involved in the presentation of the leadership and management presentation provided an insight into the practical application of theories and models of leadership. The distinction between the management and leadership function determined the roles and responsibilities of both the functions in a business process. I have learned to prioritize my strengths and reduce my weaknesses in the process of producing this reflective report.
