These are some of the things and have been learnt in class which will make the researcher a good candidate for the expectations of the company Asda. The student have also learnt various theories of management which can help me grow into a successful manager in future and will be able to see to it that I can ensure the growth of the organisation. There are some skills and the researcher has learnt and some skills which are yet to be learnt and these will be noted and have been mentioned in the report.

Introduction

In this study, there will be a reflection of the skills and have been achieved during the course of the study and how the skills will be beneficial for the growth of the approval of the manager of the company Asda. The Gibb’s reflective cycle will be used for this and the organisational profile will be developed. This will give an idea of the employability assets which are present and the ones which have to be developed for the benefit of the company. The ways in which this can be achieved have been noted and this shows all the ways in which the company will benefit with the skills.

Organisation Profile

The company Asda operates in the retail industry and have been operating with more than 10,000 employees (Asda, 2024). The headquarters of the company is in Leeds in West Yorkshire. The main specialities of the company include things like retail, development of products, logistics and so on. The company was set up in the year 1960 In Yorkshire and is known for serving for more than 18 million people across the country. This accounts for 98% of the homes in the UK. The working environment of the company is highly fast paced, which means that the employees of the same have to be highly skilled.

Employability Skill Assessment by applying Gibb’s Reflective Model

Gibb’s Reflective Model

The Gibb’s model of reflection will be used to develop the reflection. The Gibb’s model of reflection has been developed in the 1988 and this was developed to give structure to the experiences gained from learning (Oviawe, 2020). The factors which will be taken into consideration is that of description of the skills, feelings, analysis and evaluation of the same, drawing up a conclusion and making an action plan.

Description

During the course of learning about management, I have learnt that I am interested in certain things more than the others. One of the things which have been understood is the importance of the culture of an organisation and how this is able to make sure that the company can perform well (Ayatollahi and Zeraatkar, 2020). It is important to recognise the importance ofthe culture of the organisation as this determines the morale of the employees, which in turn is able to set the culture of the organisation and the ways in which they can grow. According to the theory of human relations by Elton Mayo, the managers need to have a positive relationship with their employees (Emmanuel, 2021). This shows that the company will be able to make sure that the employees are comfortable with working for the company and they will be able to perform well. One of the things which have to be respected is the culture of the employees for them to respect the managers back. According to Hofstede 6-dimension cultural model, 6 dimensions of a culture have to be known. They are individualism-collectivism, power distance, masculinity-femininity, uncertainty avoidance, long-term and short-term orientation, indulgence-restraint (Gjana, 2020).

I have also experienced why it is essential to regulate the socio-cultural aspects of a company as this is includes the various things which have to be considered for understanding the needs of the employees.

Feelings

During working on this course, I have learnt all the considerations which have to be made when I have to work in the organisation. I have felt that learning to manage the human resources is one of the primary skills which are needed in every organisation and hence, this is something which needs to be taken seriously. I have also understood that communication disruption between the management and the employees or among the employees have to be taken into consideration as well. These are some of the considerations which have to be made by the organisation and making sure that the employees of a company are happy are highly important. Hence, if I ever get to a position of a manager, I will be able to ensure that I focus on the welfare of the employees.

I feel like I have identified certain skills which I have and some skills which I do not. Some of the skills which I have are that of communication, empathy, time management. These are some of the skills and I will need for the growth of the organisation, especially if I work up to the position of a manager. There are also some skills, I do not have. These skills include things like stress management, confidence and problem solving and decision-making skills. I will have to make sure that I can work on these, as these skills will be able to promote the growth of the organisation.

Evaluation

Upon evaluation, I have understood that I have a talent for making sure that the company is able to gain competitive advantage in the market by ensuring that they are sustainable and maintain their responsibility towards their employees and society. I am highly particular about taking ethical approaches in the tasks which I do and this is one of my biggest strengths. Hence, this will make sure that I can have a good understanding of the needs of the market. One of the things which have to be taken into consideration is the fact that managing the organisational culture can be seen as regulating the strategy of the organisation to gain competitive advantage.

Communication can be understood as the process of transferring thoughts and information from one person to another and from one place to another (Armingol et al., 2021). This skill would allow me to easily interact with my clients, coworkers, managers and so on. Empathy is defined as the capacity to understand and relate to the feelings of another person and see their perspective (Eklund and Meranius, 2021). This would allow me to understand the feelings of the employees who have to work with me and the customers as well, which would make it easier for me to take decisions on the next course of action. Time management refers to the method of planning and controlling the amount of time spent on something and ensuring that the same is done efficiently and productively (Barrot et al., 2021). This will help me make sure that I can achieve all the tasks which I have and regulate the choices I make accordingly. Another skill which I have is that of decision making. This is a process and decides the final course of action after studying the problem and finding the appropriate solution for the same (Bousdekis et al., 2021).

Analysis

During the assessment of the learning which have been gained from the seminar, I have received feedback from the seminar lecturer. According to the lecturer, I have the skills to make sure that I can be a good leader. This means that I will be able to manage the company well and will have the scope to make sure that I can have a good understanding of the needs of the company and the employees. This is meant to make sure that I can contribute to the growth of the company and understand the needs of the market. Three skills have to be developed according to lecturer for increasing my competence as a manager. These skills are that I have to improve my problem-solving abilities, stress management abilities and my confidence. These are essential skills and are needed by a leader for the management of the company and this will take into account the fact that the employees will be able to rely on their leader, as they will perceive them to be confident people who know the work well.

Conclusion

It is important to note that being a manager of any company is not easy. This requires a lot of careful consideration and effort to understand the needs of the clients and how can be motivated to remain loyal to the company. The seminar has shown all the various talents which are essential for a manager to perform their tasks and have given a list of skills which I am lacking. These will be developed during the action plan, which will give a set of all the considerations which have to be made to improve the skills.

Time Bound

To be able to solve problems more efficiently and make sure that the solutions do not have any drawbacks

This can be measured based on the skills of the based on how accurate the strategies being adopted to solve the problems are being and whether or not they are causing issues afterwards.

This can be achieved by considering all the possible scenarios of the problem and coming up with a creative approach which has not been taken previously.

This is relevant as the skills are highly important for solving the issues of a business and making sure that the result can bring in high profits for the company (Stone-MacDonald et al., 2024).

6 months

To develop easy stress management strategies which can make sure that the process of calming down is done easily

This can be measured on the basis of whether or not I can calm down in a fast-paced environment and go back to focusing on my work.

This can be achieved by having a healthy lifestyle and practising mindfulness as a habit and taking professional help to come up with strategies which will calm me down in a stressful situation.

This is relevant as a working environment needs a person to have to interact with many people and take in multiple responsibilities at one time (Romas and Sharma, 2022). This means that one can easily get overwhelmed and need to manage their stress.

9 months

To build on my confidence and believe in my abilities when they are out to test

This can be measured based on how easily I am being able to approach other people and complete the tasks of the organisation.

This can be achieved by making conversation with new people and being confident about my own abilities.

This is relevant as a manager begin confident can make sure that the employees can also be confident in their abilities and perform well (Landrum, 2020).

Conclusion

In this study, there has been an assessment of the skills which have been gained from the seminar and how the same will be able to help the learner be a good manager. To do this, the Gibb’s Reflective Cycle has been studied and this has shown the various stages of the reflection. One of the things which have to be taken into consideration is the fact that the skills which are present and the ones which have to be developed have been noted. An action plan has been developed which can be used for personal and professional growth.
