Last year, during the pandemic I took part time-employment in a local pharmacy that allowed me to have sales and customer service experience. I used to work during the days at the store and it allowed me to interact with many consumers who came to the shop to buy various medicines. I learnt the location of where different types of medicines were kept in the store, allowing me to provide the required medicines to the customers without any delay. Further, it allowed me to understand the kind of operational procedure that the store worked with. For example, while I and another colleague worked in the daytime, another person was employed during the night, which resulted in an efficient division of labour as night-time encountered fewer customers. Further, this job required to me understand the various needs of consumers and gain clarity through robust communication with them in case of any doubt regarding their choice of medicine.

This experience allowed me to develop my interpersonal and communication skills effectively and efficiently as I communicated with my colleague and consumers. Through regular communication with various people, I learned the ability to communicate with anyone in a manner that is positive and fruitful for all parties. Further, this experience allowed me to understand the different ways with which stores operate their businesses as I learnt the positioning of the products to achieve higher efficiency for finding them upon request by a customer. I also understood the importance of customer service as I dealt with some rude customers that were hard to deal with comfortably. The experience also led to develop my knowledge of labour division among staff to achieve higher efficiency among the employed workforce.

My course of study is regarding businesses at Bath Spa University and this experience, enabled me to practice my communication, interpersonal, analytical thinking, and reasoning abilities that are of high relevance to the field. My interpersonal and communication skills will be a crucial ability influencing my skills as an employee and a manager in the business world, making me a high potential candidate for this course. Further, my analytical and reasoning skills illustrate my innate ability to easily understand various business theories and models and apply them to better my business knowledge and skills. Therefore, this experience has been a valuable factor for me in terms of my suitability and growth in the business world by taking this course offered by Bath Spa University.
