Executive summary
Zero Waste Eats is an innovative and eco-friendly business idea which was created to make the delivery process healthy and eco-conscious. Most of the companies faced the issue of single-use plastic waste, which became a reason for pollution.
The solution to this issue was provided by Zerowaste Eats, which includes a green food delivery service that uses electric bikes and reusable containers.
The targeting market included those residents in the UK who are eco-conscious and the age range between 20 and 45. Because they order takeaway food on a daily basis, and also care about sustainability.
The point of differentiation for this model is that it focuses on both zero waste and speed. But opponents just focused on the variety and speed.
The sales forecast predicts that there will be solid development with 500 consumers in 6 months, which will increase to 2000 by the end of the first year.
The financial projection expected that startup costs would be £70,000, which included reusable containers, electrical bikes and app development.

Task 1
Description
I created the idea about the zero-waste eats because I saw how much plastic waste is produced by most of the food delivery organisations in the UK. I also noticed that most of the organisations are using plastic bags and single-use plastic containers. These kinds of containers were used once, and then they were thrown away. At the same time, I also monitored that most of the delivery riders were using petrol bikes, which also created air pollution. Therefore, I wanted to search for an effective way to maintain the flexibility of the food delivery and decrease the loss to the environment because of this pollution. Hence, I created an idea which was simple, which includes ‘delivering food in reusable containers and riders use electrical bikes for the delivery’. I decided that each consumer will pay a small amount for the containers, which they will get back when they return these containers. The restaurant will clean these containers and reuse them, which will create a sustainable cycle.
To ensure that my idea was realistic or not, I researched how food delivery is working in the UK. What kind of wishes customers wanted and what other eco-friendly services existed then, I found that people will be becoming more eco-friendly. I also searched for the cost of electric bikes.
By mixing all these kinds of information, I created an effective plan for zero-waste eats. This idea mainly focused on resolving two main issues, which include carbon pollution and plastic waste. This phase helped me define exactly why this idea was required in today’s market. This idea also promotes sustainable food services and healthy eating behaviours and habits, with the sub-dimensions of zero food waste and zero waste packaging (Doğan and Şener 2025).
Feelings
At the start, I felt very excited about my idea because this idea was connected with my personal interests and values. Since starting, I have always cared about a healthy nature and decreasing waste, so creating this green business idea makes me feel very proud of myself, although I also felt scared and nervous because I was not sure whether people would accept it or not. Most of the consumers were used to useful delivery applications, and I also thought that people would put in so much effort into returning containers. I was also not sure if I had the correct skills for making this idea effective and successful, because I had never maintained any kind of business before starting this, and I have no idea about handling deliveries, marketing and cleaning systems.
But gradually, I started researching more on my idea, and I began to feel more confident. I saw that local councils and the government of the UK are supporting eco-friendly businesses, which gave me inspiration. I also learned that SMEs are implementing recycling, eco-friendly waste reduction and circular economy for green practices (Olekanma et al., 2024). When I discussed my idea with my friends, they gave me a positive reaction and they said they would use this kind of service if it were affordable and easy. This feedback from my friends empowered me to believe that my idea had some potential. At this time, my emotions completely changed from uncertainty to confidence and excitement, and I realised that, in the beginning, feeling nervous was very normal for everyone. These feelings also reminded me that becoming an entrepreneur is not only about money, but it is also about creating a difference. It is also analysed that the online revolution in entrepreneurship is not about the product but rather an evolutionary process based on structure (Jaboob et al., 2024).

Evaluation
When I evaluated my idea in a critical way, I found that I have both weak and strong points. The strong points made me feel excited and confident, as well as the weak points made me nervous, and also showed that I need to optimise some weak areas. The strengths of my idea are given below:
This business idea solved a clear and essential issue that both nature and people had to face. I also resolved plastic waste in the food delivery. This idea was aligned with the running trends because most organisations and people wanted to support sustainability, as sustainable diets are respectful and protective for the ecosystem and biodiversity (Torrese 2021). This also includes that electric bikes are cheaper than petrol bikes. Reusable containers can save money for people in the long term. This business idea is also similar to the innovative environmental guidelines in the UK, which provided me with more support to start this idea.
Along with these strengths, there are also some weaknesses which had to be faced at the start of this business idea, which are given below:
At the same time, I saw a few issues, including that storing and cleaning these reusable containers will take space and time. Maybe restaurants may not want to join if they thought that this kind of thing would take time and they would have to add extra work. This also includes the fact that some consumers may forget to return containers, which can become a reason for loss.
To evaluate this idea equally and fairly, I compared this business to other businesses such as Uber Eats and Deliveroo. I realised that these businesses are well-recognised and fast in delivery, but none of them focus on zero-waste delivery. This different thing from my business gave me a different position in the market.
Analysis
According to Frederick (2022), to understand and interpret my idea clearly, I used SWOT analysis. This analysis is an effective building tool for organisations to understand their competitive benefits. In the SWOT analysis, I analysed strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the context of this business idea, which are demonstrated below:
-
Strength: This includes a reusable container, a different eco-conscious framework and green electrical bikes.
-
Weakness: This factor includes the requirement for cleaning logistics and investment.
-
Opportunities: This factor includes the emerging demand and government support in the context.
-
Threats: This factor includes competition from consumer behaviour changes and big mobile applications.
I also used and analysed Gibbs' reflective cycle for interpreting my learning skills. I realised that this reflection helped me optimise my idea, and it also assisted me by thinking about what kind of things will work or not. For instance, I added a scheme for small money until returning containers; it will save from damage. With this effective phase, I learned that the meaning of innovation is more than just being effective and creative, but it also needs an analysis, experiment and adjusting ideas for making them successful and realistic, which is important for companies (Erhan et al., 2022).

Conclusion
It is concluded from this reflection that I learned a lot in starting a new business idea based on the Zerowaste Eats. This procedure taught me that entrepreneurship is all about resolving issues and bringing value to society and people. I searched about myself and found that I had robust communication and creative skills, which helped me explain my business idea, and it also piqued my interest. The most important thing I learned from Gibbs' model was so much information from idea to analysis, which made me strong. Completely, this reflection gave me confidence in starting this business and realised that it has become a positive and real business which supports both the planet and people.
Action Plan
After all these steps, I created an action plan for moving my idea in the near future.
|
Step |

|
1 |
I will conduct an online consumer survey |
