From the school life to the graduation years, extra-curricular plays a very significant role for every student. For the personal and the overall development, the social life of students is very significant. In the learning days of a student, there is large amount of pressure that enables them to perform great in their exams and achieve good grades or marks.

It is normal if the students are performing well and the same is expected from them by the others. The problem in school or college days arises only, if there is no life outside their classrooms. There are only books to spend time with. With no or less  social life in a classroom eductaion, books are something that revolves around them and there is nothing with which they can develop and groom their personality.

There are many guardians, parents and students that do not understand the significance of co-curricular activities in the learning days. In most of the schools, teachers have to convince the parents to let their students participate in such activities that are out of the classroom education, as the parents feel that these types of activities will distract the student from their regular studies and that will make them late to their home. Also, some of the students believe that they does not have any requirement of these activities in their life and they only need to have full concentration on their books.

But there is a great need to understand that co-curricular or extra-curricular activities plays similar importance as the academics. Both of these aspects complement each other in a good way and helps in the overall development of a student. It also helps to transform an individual to socially active from a fully concentrated studious child. In todays’ time, personal grooming is the most essential part to survive in the huge competitive world where education should be more than classroom walls. A student can choose from so many activities in the name of co-curricular that includes rugby, athletics, football, chess or music.

Benefits of extra-curricular activities

1. Improvement in academic performance – Various studies have been conducted which shows that the students who participate in the extra activities other than classroom learning helps in the improvement of grades or marks. This improvement is assigned to certain skills like good time management that helps in accommodating different class activities and hobbies, improved organizational skills along with boosting self-esteem. There are several skills that students learn in clubs that includes debate competitions participation that can also be applied in a classroom. With this, student also learns the method to express themselves better in front of the known or unknown public.

2. Improvement in management skills – It is important for the student to learn the method of maintaining balance between their academic life and social life or hobbies. Every student should know the method of incorporating or adding these extra activities of their life in to their academic routine or school life and separate different time for each one of them. They should also know to make planning of their daily routine by managing both study time and extra activities with proper balance. They should also know to make the best us of their free or extra time. Such students can develop themselves in the most effective and efficient way.

This is very significant as students can make the interaction with different or similar interest’s people and learn different thoughts and ideas. Also, they can develop a different point of view and starting seeing life in general.

It is very important to make the balance between all these skills so that the students could be benefitted from this.

Various studies have been made which says that some kind of artistic activities helps in the development of creative expressions and problem-solving skills among students. But the musical activities can focus on the development of patience and the sports activities helps in the improvement of the coordination. But on the general basis, it has been found that these co-curricular activities carry the higher rate of academic success.
