Ensuring that colleagues or supervisors know your location is crucial for safety, efficiency, and overall security. In safe or care settings, this awareness is beneficial but is often crucial for preventing hazards and being able to respond rapidly if emergencies happen.

This practice is primarily about safety. Safety in situations of emergency, accidents, or health issues. If you know where someone is, you can respond to an emergency, accident, or health issue quickly and efficiently, potentially reducing the impact or saving a life. If a person is lost or is having a health emergency, if we know where they are, we can respond quickly.

The second reason for following this practice is to support communication and coordination of care. Most importantly, it assures colleagues, staff, families, and service users that everyone is safe and they know where every person is if they need them.
