Person-centred values are based on honouring and prioritising the person, every person's individuality, rights, dignity, and choices in any situation. These values underpin every effort to treat every individual as an individual with their own choices, preferences, beliefs, and needs.

In healthcare, person-centred values imply providing treatment that is specific to the individual's preferences, inclinations, and individual history while providing care that allows the individual to experience privacy and dignity. For example, a care worker maintains a patient's privacy and dignity through personal care and includes them in decisions about their treatment and outcomes while still achieving healthcare goals.

In education, person-centred values seek to recognise different learner styles, respect individuals’ cultural backgrounds, and cooperate with students to plan their learning outcomes.

In the workplace, person-centred values support employees' independence to the extent possible through job management and by respecting personal information.

Essentially, person-centred values include active listening, empowering the individual by providing all appropriate information to make personal choices, respecting privacy and confidentiality, and encouraging partnership in decision-making. The benefits include improved well-being, enhanced autonomy, and a trusting relationship across a variety of settings, ensuring that support and care remain centred around the wishes and needs of the individual.
