College time is just like the game of juggling. It consisted of duration between going to class till completing the assignments and raising a family. How a one person can perform multiple tasks. This problem can be solved only by the time management. Most of the students in the college time start their semesters with large expectation from the friends, college and from themselves. They wished to get successful in their studies but they were not able to apply the realistic plans due to lack of time management, even if they have the potential to do. The achievement of academic success requires the proper time management. There are certain tips that allow you to create strategies for managing your schedule that is overcrowded; some of them are as follows:
1. Block your courses – Most of the students believe that they can learn and understand their courses better, if they make their learning shifts in frequent off-hours. But this is not the correct way to plan your study. Avoid making your schedule on regular hours. If you have some time between your classes, try to utilize them at your Social media rather than giving an extra time to your studies.
2. Make a plan – Decide your plan based on the working in all your classes in one day. Try to decide everything on the very first class you are attending. You need to schedule all the assignments that includes quizzes, weekly assignments, short papers or some exercises and mark the, into your calendar that you use. Also, develop your plans for your weekly studies or your researches you need to do for the better understanding of your course material. Try to follow the rule of thumb which says that if you are having your lectures in 1 hour, then plan and work on your study for 2 hours.
3. Never skip any class lecture – The most time efficient things in your studies is attending regular classes. Learning through the class lectures helps in building the base material which could also be helpful for the future references. At the same time, when you skip any class, it will take more time to learn the same material that you could learn at your lecture. It reduces your overall performance of your running semester. You can get notes from other person, but cannot learn the material taught at first time.
4. Determine your sleep and wake-up time – Decide your time where you can actually to do some serious work without any disturbance. It is entirely different depending on the individual. Some of the students prefer to have late night studies, as there were no one one to disturb them. Some students feel good to study at early morning time but is not necessary to follow the person for everyone, if someone is studying at odd time. There might be possibilities that the time suits to one person can be different from the time suits to the other person. Also, don’t forget to schedule your time for sleep, as a person always requires the fresh mind to study. If you will study something continuously for hours, you might or might not understand the topic deeply or properly.
5. Keep a record – At the beginning of the semester, in each of your class, it is important to note the tie taken to complete the homework and the type of assignments or test, quizzes or even short papers. With this record, you can prepare a time frame so that the course assignments could be done in a proper way for future. You can also make the analysis of time of study you are taking, whether it is, less or more.
For the progresses in the semesters, you can adjust your study plan according to the situations and conditions. There are cases when the workload is divided unevenly, as some of the courses are lengthy and take more time than your planned time. Plan your time management properly and get the success in your academics.
6. Timely homework – Always focus on doing your homework timely or immediately after when it is assigned. Your efficiency can be increased and reduces the overall study time for the same course material by performing all reading part before it is done in lecture, pre-study for quizzes or try to memorize every study section by week-by-week basis on daily routine. This strategy will not require more revision in the irrelevant or the main time of the examinations, as everything gets fitted directly into the mind.
7. Balance your courses – Each and every professor thinks that his/her course is the most important activity in the whole world. Try to spend different amount on time on each course depending on the complexities, significance and requirement of the particular course. Always avoid spending more amount of time in which the easiest subject. Cut back the time or the duration of your study on the particular course, if you’re spending all you time at the hardest or the easiest course or subject. Keep in mind to cover all the subjects with same duration each day.
8. Increase your concentration/focus – If you are using Social media to get your examination content prepared, try not to follow the same principles and time duration of learning the course materials through other platforms. At other platforms, you can repeatedly consume the same learning material at the same time but in the lectures at college, huge amount of concentration is required as they try to provide the base material of the course which is not available at other sites or technologies. So, try to increase your focus/concentration at all the subjects or the lectures. Try to understand it without any break, as the more amounts of breaks can cut down your focus on the subject.
9. Perform each task only once – If you are performing your things twice, it will be more time inefficiency. Some of the students follow the principle of copying their notes multiple times, listening the same lecture twice or thrice, and reading the same lectures multiple times to increase the focus on the plot and the characters of the subject. This concept will make your time waste to the maximum and does not ensure you that the next time you listen to or read it, you will understand it better. There are more chances of reducing concentration.
10. Divide and conquer – Larger projects like research paper, field studies, and cumulative finals should be cut-down to some manageable chunks. Try to add the extra time for more than your requirements, as there can be major crisis at the end of the planning.
11. Don't take more holidays – Some of the students wanted to have more holidays other than their regular holidays or spring break.
12. Tell them where to go – At the time of examinations or submissions or seminar presentations; try to avoid making commitments that are less important. It can be related to your friends, family, colleagues, employers, manger, teacher or any on else. Focus more on what you have planned rather than going for new plans and commitments. In the end weeks of your semester, devotee your full-time to your learning or study.
